The name Ali ibn Umar al-Shadili is intrinsically connected to the old coffee port of Mocha, in Yemen. Ali ibn, a Sufi mystic practising in the late fourtenth century, was considered something of a patron saint for the port town, whose prosperity and infamy was so directly linked with coffee.

In fact, Ali ibn is believed to be the father of the 'habit' and is still widely thought of as the benevolent guardian of coffee houses and coffee workers in Yemen. His name remains so synonymous with the trade that coffee houses are still referred to as "shadillyas" today.

So, we offer thanks to St Ali.

Our aim is simple; to source the best green beans, roast them with care and attention to detail, then make great espresso, as good as it gets.
